Why Checking social media first thing in the morning can be the worst thing you can do to yourself

Undoubtedly social media has changed our lives in so many different ways. I really appreciate all the great things that are happening due to social media . At the same time it is also meddling with our mental health and deeply influencing the course of the day .

You ask how? I used to be this person who would check social media first thing in the morning. Especially when I had posted something. It could be a picture, a song, an article , anything. As humans all of us have a deep rooted need for approval . Some of us have it more. What social media does is “Make it worse” . If more people have liked/ commented/ given a thumbs up , you are happy. If not many people have reacted to it, you feel grumpy . So what exactly is happening here? With time your need for approval gets constantly fuelled by social media and you reach a point where you become desperate for it.

“ You are giving away the power of controlling your emotions to insignificant strangers who are not even a part of your life”

Without a debate you can agree with me that this is the worst thing you can do to yourself.

To overcome this , I set aside a time that I would check social media every day and it is never in the mornings. Trust me nobody has ever died because they did not check social media in the morning. And it is not easy, specially if that is what you have been doing for a while.

When it gets hard, I tell myself, “Do you respect yourself?,If yes, then respect your resolutions”

I promise I will not check how many times this article has been read like a maniac, first thing in the morning , but you know you can make it easier for me by clapping for it before my scheduled social media time , Just kidding 😁

Happy surfing 🌊
