7 ways to make the special day, more special for a loved one during a lockdown

We all want to make that special day memorable for a loved one . This year it is not going to be easy due to the unprecedented conditions. But we cannot stop celebrating those special days!

It is a situation where you cannot go to a store to buy a gift, you cannot even get a gift delivered, you cannot take them out for lunch, you cannot send them flowers. I know, it feels terrible.

But guess what, you can still make this work.

  1. Make a video

You think you are not tech savvy? I wasnt too . All I used was Powerpoint to create a beautiful video . I did this for my parents' anniversary. First step was to collect some of their best photos. Next step was to add captions to it. I ensured there was a good mix of romance and humor in the captions, I wanted them to feel good as well as laugh 😊 . They are both into Karaoke ,so I downloaded one of the romantic songs they have sung together and I used it as background music for the video.

They absolutely loved it ! Not one of those things, where your parents like whatever you do for them 😛. They genuinely liked it! You can ask them if you want 😉

2. Create a personalized Sudoku with a hidden message

Download a Sudoku puzzle, replace numbers with symbols /letters . Choose a row to hide your message. Say the last row ,when completed has your hidden message . This works very well when the person you are gifting ,likes to solve puzzles, the hidden message is their prize for solving it! I did this for our wedding anniversary and I can safely say my husband fell in love with me all over again 🤣. Best part about this option is you can email it to them if they are away.

3. Netflix to the rescue

Gift them an annual membership of Netflix, you cannot go wrong with this one.

4. Online learning course

Know what their hobby is? Gift them an online learning course to get better at it. Photography, music, baking,……. your options are unlimited! What better way to use the time during lock down?

5. Writing prompts

This one is one of my favorites. If you are not keen on investing or purchasing it, there are a lot of websites which provide interesting writing prompts for free.Even if they are not into writing, this will irk their curiosity and make them want to write. Better still, if you can complete each other’s stories!

6. Open an online deposit account

If there are younger kids you would like to gift, you could open an online fixed deposit for them, the one in which they would get the money when they start school or for their 16th birthday . This will be a very meaningful gift at this time.

7. Cook a meal for them

You can do this if you are not away from them. This situation has forced us to look within . This can be one of the most creative outcomes of that, if you can pull off cooking their favorite meal . It is easy to take them out for lunch, but what they will appreciate is the love you poured into it by making it yourself.

Nobody asked for this situation, but we are in it . Might as well dance in the rain ,than wait for the storm to pass. 💃🌧

No more excuses for not gifting 😉 . And trust me this will be one of the most meaningful gifts you have ever given. Hassle free too, because they do not have to disinfect it or wait for 3 days before opening it 😜
